Science is amazing.
Sometimes it speaks for itself.
Sometimes it needs a little help.
Hello! I'm Chris Woodford and I write about science and technology for adults and children.
The books I've written, co-written, or contributed to have sold over four million copies, been translated into over 20 languages, and won or been shortlisted for over 40 international awards. My latest book, Atoms under the Floorboards, won The American Institute of Physics Science Writing Award for Books, 2016, and was named a Physics World Top 10 Book, 2015. I'm currently working on books about air pollution, "big tech", and the interface between art and science.
My work is all about communicating science in compelling ways. The two strands I try to bring together came from a degree in Natural Sciences at Cambridge University (specializing in physics and experimental psychology), followed by studying advertising and design with late, great, legendary creative guru John Gillard at The School of Communication Arts in London.
When I'm not writing science books, I run the science education website Explain that Stuff, which has served up over 108 million pages since I first set it up back in 2006.
